SDFLoader-SHP to SDF French names

Hi,

I'm using SDFLoader6.3 to convert shapefiles
SHP to SDF format files. I've toponyms files
with French names and all their accents but
after the conversion to SDF and using these
SDFs to display them with MapGuideAuthor, the
names with special accents don't appear
correctly. Is there anything I can do to solve
this? Thanks!

From SDF Loader Help:

Extended Characters in Shapefiles

When you convert a Shapefile, extended characters
in the original text strings may display as the wrong characters (or not at all)
in converted strings. The reason for this is that Autodesk MapGuide and Autodesk
MapGuide SDF Loader use the ASCII convention to interpret character codes, while
DBF files use a non-ASCII font called OEM, whose extended character set is coded
differently.
To correct the problem, convert the SHP file to SDL, correct
the strings in a text editor, and then convert the edited SDL file to
SDF.

Thank you, Marion. I've tried this for a few
files and it works fine. However, I have
thousands of those toponymy files and
manually correcting the SDL files will take
awfully lots of time. Is there a better to do
this?

There's nothing I could provide to you,
but you should be able to do the job automatically with a
small script that opens the SDL files and exchanges the characters by using the
Find and Replace option.
