Hello,
our company wants to setup a mapguide enterprise server 2011 on a windows server 2003. Now we are at the point to decide whether we use a IIS or an Apache. Are there any disadvantages using an Apache? I can't find an abstract showing the differences using mapguide with iis or apache.
Thanks,
S. Klein
If you intend to do any MapGuide application development, what language do you want to use?
That will determine whether it is Apache (Java) or IIS (.net)
If it's PHP, either one will work.
From a non-programming perspective, Apache does have better out-of-the-box'ness than IIS in my experience. On the other hand, IIS is easier to maintain than Apache due to user-friendly admin/configuration tools and the fact that it is a Microsoft product that integrates with another Microsoft product.
At the end of the day, ask yourself two questions:
1. Who will be maintaining this MapGuide installation?
2. If you need customisations, do you know any of the programming languages made available by the Apache or IIS configuration?
These two questions should make the choice clearer.
