Issue with mapadmin/login.php - MapGuide 2008 Enterprise Trial

Hello,
I have XP Professional with SP2, IIS 5.1 and .Net 2.0. While we have ordered for MapGuide Enterprise 2008, we wanted to continue work with the Trial version. Please note that I'm relatively new to MapGuide (MG). (Before writing this I did go through some of the posts on similar error/s but did not get many leads.)

I installed MG 2008 Trial Server, WebExtensions and Studio with the default settings for the first time and followed the instructions in the PDFs and the installation went like a breeze. We were able to go through the examples.

Then we thought we would uninstall and re-install MG on 😧 as we were running out of space on C:. When I reinstalled, WebServer never asked for a location change while installing whereas I had the option of specifying 😧 while installing Web Extensions and Studio. However, since then I am unable to even open the site administrator page with the browser throwing up a HTTP 500 Internal Server Error. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling so many times trying everything but it's all the same now - the site administrator wouldn't open.

The unfriendly error simply shows The specified module could not be found. The URL I try to open is http://localhost/mapguide2008/mapadmin/login.php. Connecting through Studio gives me "Unexpected error in contacting site URL".

As suggested in an earlier posting, I tried accessing http://localhost/mapguide2008/mapagent/index.html and clicked on EnumerateResources but I am not clear what to try there becuase the Resource ID just shows Library://. Nevertheless, clicking submit shows "The specified module could not be found" error. Please note that I have not loaded any samples yet because I wanted to check the site administrator first before investing time in setting up the examples.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Further, I have a creepy feeling that PHP isn't working and that could be a root cause for this issue. I tried copying a test php page and a test asp page in two directories C:\inetpub\wwwroot and C:\Program Files\Autodesk\MapGuideEnterprise2008\WebServerExtensions\www and in both the places while the test.asp page worked, the test.php gave an error "The specified module could not be found." (I'm zero on php and hence groping my way through.)

I'm investigating further on these lines. Meanwhile if the experts in this group know what the issue is, please do guide me appropriately.

Thanks again

Hello cybervidyarthi,

I'm also having a similar problem with the trial version of MG Enterprise 2009. All of a sudden I'm unable to login into Site Administrator (http://127.0.0.1:8008/mapguide2009/mapadmin/login.php) using login: Administrator and password: admin. I thought the problem was the software expired. So I uninstalled MG Enterprise and then installed MG Open Source 2.

I'm still unable to login to Site Administrator (http://127.0.0.1:8008/mapguide/mapadmin/login.php), I'm getting "Authentication failed. Please enter a valid username and password" error message.

Thanks for any suggestions to solve this issue,

Jeff Jensen

Have you restarted the machine after uninstall or killed any MG processes/reset web server before uninstall?

Your trial version MG server could still be running in memory which the newly installed web extensions is talking to.

Hello Jackie,

Thanks for the help, it worked. I did the following:

Step 1. Uninstall MapGuide Web Services
Step 2. Uninstall MapGuide Server
Step 3. check to see the following services are removed or disabled - ApacheMapGuide, MapGuide Enterprise 2009 Server and/or MapGuide Server v2.0
Step 4. reboot server
Step 5. install MapGuide Server
Step 6. install MapGuide Web Services

Side note, when I did an uninstall of MapGuide Enterprise 2009, it didn't remove the service (so I just disabled it). Do you know how to remove the service?

Thanks again,

Jeff Jensen

Depending on your OS, you may be able to use the "sc" command to remove
the service:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/251192

If you still had the mgserver.exe executable around, you could run it
with the uninstall option:

\server\bin\mgserver.exe uninstall

Thanks Jason.

The MapGuide uninstall removed the C:\Program Files\Autodesk\MapGuideEnterprise2009\Server\Bin\mgserver2009.exe file, but thanks for the tip on the uninstall option.

The "sc" command is very handy

sc \\JeffServer delete MapGuideServer2009

please note you cannot use the display name of the service. The following will not work:
sc \\JeffServer delete "MapGuide Enterprise 2009 Server"

Thank you all for your help,

Jeff Jensen
