Lighter weight Trees

I am finding trees to be a major limiting factor in models we are doing.

I love the built in ones though.

Is there a tweak we could do to lighten those up, in terms of speed?

I am thinking we resmaple the leaf textures, or something.

I need ideas on this as I am not a 3d model expert.

thx

I think the trees are a known performance issue. I create them then turn them off until I do the storyboard video

Seems like Autodesk would be interested in this, but no replies?

you need to reduce the polygons.

turn trunks into pentagonal prisims (5faces) or even triangular prisims (3faces)

turn canopy into 5-10 randomly roatated planes

total faces (15)

this will give a the trees a "lollipop" appearance to some extent but not really at high angles and large scales

So, using what? 3dsmax?
I do most 3d modeling in acad but the real modeling progs may have this reduction built in. Curious if this is a 2 minute thing or a couple hours to do.

you can do it in CAD using the Mesh tools and material mapping tools for the tree textures.

then export to FBX and import that into Infraworks
