Any tips on creating an animation path along a railway centerline? It looks like you can use a shp or sqlite file, but I am not sure about the what Infraworks reads from those files. Is there a particular schema for the sqlite file?
I also find the various motion recording tools in Infraworks extreemly encumbering and just about useless. For instance, there is no easy way to simulate a walking person, like it is in Navisworks. One of the most common aspects with 3D imagery is Fly-By's and Walk-Run Simulations. The arrow key movements are too fast and erratic to control, so the walk recording does not work at all for me. It took me all day to make a decent animation. And the Storyboard is also very hard to manage. its very clunky. I dont know how many times I clicked on the + sign and had a view in between some other views, completely out of sequence. And I cannot slide camera shots along the storyboard either.
As far as the path thing you are talking about, I briefly looked into that. Its amazingly silly to have to rely on a file generated in another program to import to use as a camera pathing tool...why not add that into the program?
I'm so far not very impressed with the new Infra-Works. Just dealing with the various files is getting anoying...IMX, FBX, 3DS, DWG, and on and on. Why for instance, can I not import Max files directly ? Why do I have to convert Max files to 3DS files first? And the content is severely lacking...most of the 3D geometry is silly at best - they often look like toys. Suer I can download stuff, but thats an amazing hassle also, and more file conversions, or scale conversions. And the surface modeling tools are also lacking. Why do I have to drape a Coverage Area over the main surface to modify the surface layer? And the water generation tool requires alot of help also. I add water, but there is no water areas layer added to my scene. I dont get it. I cannot turn it off.
So, back to the path - please add some sort of Camera Pathing Tool - and a walking tool that works. Some means to control the speed of the mouse movements too, and walking speed like in Navisworks (and no, I do not want to have to deal with also exporting the Infra model into Navisworks...).
The grips are also anoying. They bounce all over the place, and fine-tuning anything is almost impossible. Holding the Control Key down seems tohelp, but when you get to the edge of the surface or a slope it goes berzerk. And coverage areas are hard to use - for instance, why do trees on a slope not snap to the slope? They are floating or buried in / over the hill...very strange indeed.
