objects grouping that are not related

We put a bunch of guard rail in, then later some utility poles.

All of a sudden, we noticed three util poles in another spot showing up, and grouped to a guardrail piece.

Selecting one of the poles causes on of the guard rail pieces to select, so you cannot delete the bad poles without nuking the guard rail.

This seems to happen on every model we do, somewhere along the way.

I would like to edit the sqlite file and kill the grouping. I have the tools to do so, just not sure what to hack.

Can anyone shed light on how the grouping might get that way, or how to troubleshoot this?

We normally just delete the group and re-place the good object that went with the bad.

thanks
