How to join (merge) multple IW models?

I would like to merge two Infraworks models.

Is it possible? (how?)

I am currently using IW 360 2015.2.

it is not possible to merge different projects into one.
If you like to have this feature available in future versions of InfraWorks I would encourage you to file a product enhancement wish on the following site:

Yes, I think it would be a great addition.

I am now trying the new Model Builder, that is great, but limited in the max size (or shape) of the model area.

This is very good for most of the projects, but it is not enough for long transportation infrastructure models.

Oh, I see that most of the software seems to be still single core...come on..yes it is fast, but why not taking advantage of the hardware?

I think that with large models this could be a potential bottleneck.

However, great software for preliminaly phases and mild technical analysis

Hi Guido,

I'm glad to hear that you're using Model Builder (preview)!  As you pointed out its size constraint, I want to let you know that allowing irregular shaped polygons as project boundary for AOI selection is on our roadmap.  Hopefully we won't have the size limit by then, but in case of performance, we do have to limit the model size, I would like to know the typical length of your corridors and how wide you offset from your corridors.

Well, my current feasibility study is about 300km long, but, altough many of them may also be longer, usually it is a good idea to use smaller sections.

Smaller sections are more manageable and usually there is not a real need to include all the details that also IW can handle (you can always use Google Earth maps for the large scale).

Using free shape polygons to grab data would be a good way to save some space (and time), but I encourage in finding some way to merge multiple models or, also, to have some way of cross linking them (something like Xrefs).

Apart from these tools, very good for the feasibility studies and for the representation and (some) analysis of the final design, I would proabaly like to use your software (IW) for representation/analysis of the model based design performed with other detailed design software (something like Civil 3D, to stay with Autodesk): the detailed design software offer the necessary precision and detail, but they really fall (very) short in performance with large infrastructure models, and IW can really help in this sense.

In the detailed design, detailed survey information is available, but also putting some "good backround" could be nice.

I was wondering the same thing. I have a design model that I've invested some time in and a model from model builder. The best  I was able to do was export to imx and then import right back into infraworks.

a design model...do you mean you layed out a road in IW and now want the design in c3d or another model?

I'm very interested in examples of when IW was a better suited to to doing roads than C3D.

I have told Autodesk any 3d design situation needs the ability to xref and drape linework, and IW does not have it.

Curious of your story.

I use IW to see things I already designed, so use it a ton, just not for design layout.
