Design roads

Hi everyone

I am a complete newbie to cad. I am using the student program and want o design roads without the use of terrain data. How can I create a base layer to start working on.

 

I then need junctions T and cross, u turns pedestrian crossings. I am unable to access any of the program utilities as I cannot import the base layer

 

please help

If you go to the National Map Viewer, you can download terrain for the area where you are putting your "project." It is all free.

 

Once you have that, you can do your design.

Hi Tim

thanks for your reply. is there a way to start without terrain (GIS) i really want to work on a flat base

What I have done is just make a square polyline in Civil 3D, turn that into a surface and then use Imx_export to send it to InfraWorks. That gives you a starting point that is flat and at 0.

thx, will get started on that
Do you know if the student version has all the different road junctions i will nedd, or not!
where is the best place to download things i may need if student version has not the required materials
free if possible :}

I'm sorry, but I don't know what might be different from the commercial version to the student version.
