Alternative Wind Turbine Model

I need to create visuals of wind farms and don't really want to use the stock OOTB onshore wind turbine. I currently position the OOTB turbines as follows:

"1. Select your point-based FDO data source (e.g. SHP, SDF, etc.) providing the positions for import and open the data source config dialog for it (opens automatically if you drag&drop the file into the scene, otherwise double-click the data source in the Data Source Explorer)
2. Set the target class/type to "City Furniture"
3. For the "Rule Style" property mapping select the 3d model style "3D Model\Energy\Wind Turbine - Land/Sea"
4. Click "Close and Refresh"

Done - the geo-referenced points defined by your external file should be represented as city furniture features within the model scene using the wind turbine 3d model as instanced model"

I have sourced a decent turbine model via Trimble warehouse and converted it in AutoCAD to a fbx file and can bring a single instance into IW as a 3D model but this gets a bit tedious after a while so can this be done in bulk in a similar way to that indicated above?

Thanx

Neil

hey Niel,

not sure if i get this right.

You have a point file which you used to positon a wind turbine (from the Infraworks library) with the correct position and rotation.

Now you want to use your own turbine within this process, right?

If so you can simply go the style palete and open the folder under 3D models where you would like to store it.

Once you have opened the folder there is a plus sign on the bottom of this Dialog where you can add new models to your style library.

Just select the one and you may change the scaling if needed.

Store it and then it can be used as you described it before.

Hi Neil,

I was about to create you a Screencast Video, but Andreas was quicker.
However, this is the video I have created of how it works:
