2014 R2 Terrain Measurement Wish List item

Rather than have to pick points around a land cover area in order to get area and volume, it would be much easier if you could just query the object.

Hi Tim,

I'm a user experience designer for InfraWorks and I'm interested in your question. Could you explain a little bit more about what you'd like to see here? Can you describe a situation where this might be useful?

Thanks,

Jessamyn

Hello Jessamyn,

As it stands now, in order to calculate volumes, you have to select points around the area you want calculated.

It would be easier if you could pick a Land Cover object and have the volume calculated without picking points.

Let's say I import an existing ground surface. I then create a land coverage for a building pad and I specify the width of the transition to the existing surface. When I want volumes, I should be able to just pick that land coverage and have InfraWorks find the points required to delineate the extents of the coverage object.

AS an example, in Civil 3D I can tell the volumes calculator to compare EG to FG. I don't have to pick any points, it just compares the surfaces. Infraworks would be similar, but would compare a land cover object to a surface.

Have a great day and don't hesitate to contact me if you want more opinions. 😉

Tim
