Strange joint motion behaviour

Hi,

i've just designed a X/Y portal with quite some joints. Here's an overview:

xyportal.png

Here's a bigger version klick

The X-Sliders (4 pcs) are attached to the mounting plate using screws and 8 rigid joints. The mounting plate is attached to the X-Rail with a slider joint and offset (this wasn't possiblem with the sliders due to their geometry).

The X-Rail is joined to the Y-Sliders with 1 rigid joint each. The sliders each are joined with a slider joint to the Y-Rails. Y-Rails themselfes are grounded.

That basically works. I can drag the carriage around and the portal moves right. The only strange thing is i can move the carriage in X directions 1:1 - means it is directly attached to the mouse pointer. The Y direction is like 1:2 - i have to move the mouse double the way to reach the movement i want. That's not a big deal at all but is a real strange behaviour and makes playing around with the movement a bit harder. For me it would be much better to have a 1:1 movement in Y direction too as i need to play around with that a lot in that project.

This only happens if i move everything using the carriage. If i drag the X-Rail the Y-movement is 1:1.

Is there anything i am doing wrong or anything i could do to improve that or is it just a bug?

Thanks,

Frank

Howdy!

Thanks for reporting this. Do you have any components in the design grounded?

Is there any chance I could review your file? I'm not sure why there 1:1 in one axis and 1:2 in another axis, but I would be happy to take a look to see if I can figure it out.

If you do an "export archive" from the main menu in the workspace, you can e-mail the resultant .f3d file to my e-mail address at nathan DOT chandler AT autodesk DOT com.

Thanks,

why export - Fusion360 is for sharing, isn't it? 🙂 I could share my file with you. Same email address?

hmm i just tried reproducing the problem but it seems like it has dissappeared. Nevertheless i've shared this file with you using the adress you provided and it shows your name - seems to work.

Anyway... you won't find the problem happening again i guess - still trying to find out what it was.

I just wanted to confirm that I was able to look at the assembly. I did not find that there was a difference in movement when dragging along one axis or the other. If I did this with a rotated or an isometric view, the drag did feel a bit different, but I think that is to be expected. If you see anything else regarding this topic that you'd like me to look into, please let me know. I'll be happy to look into it.

Thanks,

yes, i also had this "view based differences" but i can't say that i didn't expect this big of a difference. i think the different behaviour based on the view angle feels strange and uncommon, don't you?
