Scale for sketch when importing SVG files

Hi,

Since the update to v.2.0.1043 the scale option appears to have dissapeared.  I'm importing a SVG and it comes in too big (even though the file in Adobe Illustrator was set at the correct size).  I need to scale it down but can't find the option now.  Has this functionality been removed?  If so is there another way to do it?

Thanks

Nick

Hi Nick,

I moved this to a new thread since it really did not belong with the release notes.  Separating the message and applying a logical subject will make it easier for other customers and Autodesk employees to find this discussion topic and provide everyone with the best help.

We are looking into this more.

Thanks,

Andy

Hi Nick,

Have you tried using the Model > Modify > Scale command on the sketch after importing?

I just tested this, and it appears to work okay. Let me know if this helps or if there are further questions/concerns.

Thanks,

Hi Nathan,

Yes, thats the command I'm looking for but since the update it appears to have vanished!  It used to be in the Modify menu next to "Move" & "Align" but now don't know where it is?  Very strange.

Scale.tiff

Any idea where it's gone or why I'm not seeing it?

Thanks

Nick

Also noticed I can't change my workspace. When I click on Model workspace it only gives me the option of Model. Sculpt and Patch aren't there.

If you select Create BaseFeature from the Create drop down menu first, the scale command will appear on the Modify drop down.

Give that a try and let me know if it helps.

Thanks,

The svg can't be selected for scaling in any way. Changing the scale number has no effect on the import size.

Really need to allow scaling of SVG files in Fusion360 or provide a reliable method to accuratly bring in SVG files from Illustrator with specific dimensions.

To be honest, SVG is an exercise in frustration, I've tried inkscape, serif and a couple of others and it really doesn't work.

Inserting the svg into fusion is no problem but from there it is virtually impossible to do anything with it.

I think one step in the right direction is to make the Fix/Unfix a separate button instead of a toggle, as when you unfix multiple objects only some are unfixed and you then have to go in and unfix the fixed ones one by one, otherwise you end up refixing the unfixed lines.

And Fusion must have some filtering going on, when you select the lines you have to be zoomed right into the SVG to do a complete window select otherwise it leaves some lines unselected.

Fusion's insert SVG is not the best. I don't get why it can't be edited, moved and scaled as a sketch element after it is brought into F360. Ideally we should get full control of the SVG at any time we need to edit it.

The best you can do is adjust the perameters in the insert SVG dialogue box. You will need to experiment with x/y distance and scale until you get results close to your original design.

Best to insert in to a fresh file that you can throw out and try agian in a new file, rinse and repeat, until you get your SVG right.

After insert is complete I would still trace out your design in sketch mode to make it as natiive to F360 as possible.

*SVG insert is an important feature and HOPEFULLY this (and otheres) will get some attention in future updates. For instance the dialogue box should be able to be accessed inthe right click sub menu and so on.

Hey guys, first be sure it's a good SVG format, such as in Inkscape saving as Plain SVG.  Then after inserting it into a sketch, you actually can effectively scale it by first going to Stop sketch in upper right, then in Model workspace going to Modify > Scale, for Entities selecting the sketch in the Browser tree containing the SVG, and also can select Point which will be at central location of scaling action, and Scale factor, and viola!

Also while in sketch edit mode for the SVG sketch, you can window/box select the whole SVG and press Fix/Unfix in Sketch palette to remove the green color of the SVG, such that it is no longer locked/fixed down.  As was mentioned, you sometimes have to zoom in to get everything, holding Shift  (for Windows) down all the while.  You should be able to do a lot with the curves.  If any SVG file continues to give problems, it would be interesting for everyone if you could upload it to this thread to be looked at.

Very cool tips thanks jjurban55! That worked for my files. I'm saving out SVGs from Illustrator and the resulting files are often broken up. Any tips to save out better SVGs from Illutrator? see attached pic.  I will to look in to Inkscape. Thanks!

Glad it worked for you!  I haven't used Illustrator, but are there different SVG options in the save dialog?  Maybe if you even tried importing it into Inkscape to resave as plain SVG?

Im trying to resize this to fit on a 2inx3in face. I'm trying to get this done so I can go on to the CAM portion and write a program to engrave the logo on a piece of aluminum with my cnc mill. I am not failiar with illistrator, I had a guy from fiverr convert this .jpeg logo to the vector, heres what I got from him, when i open it in 360 its huge and I havn't been able to scale it down to  2x3in.

Hi there, I took a look at that dxf file, but it is not making closed sketch profiles, even though no gaps are apparent.  And when I scaled the sketches containing the curves, got a caution that the curves had a problem.  I would maybe try having your .jpeg logo converted to an SVG file instead, then go to Insert > SVG in Fusion, and see if the resulting curves are better behaved.

Trying to work with SVG inserts is sure a horrid experience. I can insert it but it seems impossible to move it to the desired location, and scaling it is a troublesome experience at best.

I was trying to place some text on a curve (on  the side of a bearing case). No joy.

@DonCheke one thing you can try is to export it as a .f3d then bring it back in. a file I did that to, a person opened it with a Apple computer and it was half fixed, if I do it with window`s it does bugger all.

there are ways to fix it like project the sketch to a active component what give`s you the sketch as a DM I tried it with the time line on it went funny each time.

then you can delete the original sketch do a save then start the time line do a new sketch and trace the projected sketch once that`s done you can delete the projected sketch and you are left with a sketch that is in the time line, it`s a bit of work to do but it works. it is meant to be fix by the end of year or half way through next year.

@jjurban55 you need to start putting thing in tips and tutorials your bearley ever wrong
