Import .sat file taking a long time to convert

Hello, I have dragged and dropped a .sat file which came from Inventor. It has been over 1 hour, and yet, it is still not available for editing. Would it be possible to add a progress bar to the files?

Thanks

David

David,

When importing a file into Fusion 360 you should use the Import CAD Data from my local Hard Drive Command. After doing this a progress bar will appear where the orange meter is next to the alerts.

Can you try this and let us know if this helps?

Thanks,

That does help. I had pushed the other button. Two hours later and some very simple geometry is still processing.... not good.

Update: The .iam (inventor file is still processing), the .sat file imported within a few minutes

When you imported the Inventor assembly (IAM) file, did you Specify a project file (IPJ)?

Import IAM into Fusion 360.PNG

It may help to have all of the referenced files for the IAM (the other part files IPT) located in a single directory. There is a feature in Inventor called Pack and Go that will enable you to make a copy of all the referenced files and copy them to a single directory. You may consider using Pack and Go to collate all of the required files prior to importing into Fusion 360.

I hope this helps, please keep us updated on your progress.

Thanks,

Hi Nathan, Many thanks for the extra tips. I have drawn the following conclusions:

1) The Inventor .iam file I attempted to upload last week is still stuck in the upload queue with no apparent way of deleting it. This file contains imported geometry, and I wonder if that is preventing it from loading?

2) I had good success uploading an Inventor assembly from a Pack and Go folder, without a project file. I rebuilt my file so that it was 100% inventor features - the upload took a few minutes for about 228k of data. This is the method I shall use for Inventor files now.

3) I then took the same inventor assembly and tried uploading it directly from my project folder, using a project file, but this was not successful. It said it was 60MB of data, even though it was the same assembly as above, and after 25 minutes when it had progressed to half way I decided to cancel the upload.

David
