How do I import a 3D design into an existing design?

I'm a beginner and I'm trying to import a cap from one file into a cap from another file and can't seem to find any import options.

Any help will do.

Thanks,

James

Hi James!

On model workspace you can load/add another design with Assemble/Insert function.

If you don't want to insert the whole design just a part of it (like a cup), you have the option to save only one component as a new design. Right click over the component name and "Save Copy As".

Then you can insert this new design into the target design.

I hope I helped.

Do you have both of the design saved in your dashboard? If so, you may open one of the designs and use the Assemble > Insert command to insert a design saved in your dashboard to another workspace. See the below image for reference.

Hello,

Looks like I don't have that option. Maybe because I'm on the 30 day trial? If you know that is the case please let me know.

Thanks so much for your help.

James,

Thanks for the update. The trial does not have any effect on functionality. To access the Assembly drop down menu, change to the model or patch work space. See the below image for clarification.

The below video walks through importing a file and then inserting it into an assembly. It may be helpful to review the video.

I hope this information helps. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Hello,

I want to start off by saying thank you for your help. I've been an Art Director for over 20 years and this is probably the first time I've ever needed so much assistance on using a program lol.

I watched the video and everything seemed to be going good. I opened the cap file and made it a component and then I was able to open the window to insert a file, got the list then boom I get an error message.

On my dashboard you can see that both the cap and the bottle have been uploaded and you can see that I can open both up separately.

I'll give it one more shot if you can?

Thanks,

James

I am happy to help!

Did you import the 3D models from another program?

They look like really awesome models. I'm curious to know which program(s) they may have come from.

One thing I have seen overlooked is when importing files, there are two options. One to upload CAD data (3D models) and another for regular data (images, word document, etc). If you use the regular data upload option, a 3D preview is generated for CAD data, but there is no workspace for the model.

If you imported the files, did you use the Import CAD data from my local hard drive option?

From the screenshots, it looks like you've done everything correctly. I don't believe that the regular data should be listed in the Insert dialog, but I thought I would just double check that the models were imported correctly.

In a previous thread, a user found that a firewall was impacting the behavior in the Insert command. Could something like that be the root cause?

If you're working from a laptop, you may test it on another network (e.g. home or a coffee shop wireless). If you'd like, I will be happy to do a remote session to go over the issue in-depth. I've sent you an e-mail with my contact info.

Thanks,
