123D files (*.123dx) import to Fusion360?

Hi,

is there a way to import files created in Autodesk's 123D Design - *123.dx - so that they can be used in Fusion?

No. There is no import directly today. We are working with the 123d team to get started on one. Thanks for the nudge.

Kevin, you might also want to consider the other Autodesk apps such as 123D Catch or sculpt.

Currently too much of what AD offers is fragmented inside their own software systems.

Cooud 360 would be terrific if a 123D file could be brought into Fusion etc without downloading expoter files to import into Fusion.

Many thanks for your replies... Although the STL route is an emergency way out, the short answer now is I guess "not possible".

In my opinion, this is quite a drawback for several reasons.

1 - both products are from autodesk, both products are based on a similar philosophy, so why is this (quite logical) workflow missing?

2 - AFAIK, the 123D range, including 123D Design is aimed at beginner users. Those who like the tool are quite likely to update to Fusion 360 to get more features and capabilities. But these users will probably already have some designs made in 123D Design, so again, the compability would be quite logical.

Much better than STL is SMB. This is a short term solution as we work on reading 123 Design files directly. If you downlod the SMB file for your design you can uploaded it into Fusion360 and it will become a Fusion desing. Be sure to upload using the CAD file uploader.

Just an FYI ... this is the reason I chose 123D over ViaCAD.  ViaCAD offers a lot more, super stable, awesome package for $99, including exporting to a number of formats such as IGES, and STEP in a way that the parts stay grouped after importing into other drawing packages (which is pretty rare ... most iges and STP and STP exports from other drawing packages just convert to mesh), nice 2D layout tools.

But the 123D ability to import into fusion, then from there save as an Inventor file is unbelievably huge.  Trumps everything.  This should be a selling point you guys should be shouting from the rooftops.

I personally can't add it it but I do have influence into what does not get done. We have to choose carefully the projects team works on, adapt as there are surprises and reevaluate based on community and customer feedback. 

It is disappointing to me too that we have not yet been able to do import from 123D but it just has not been high enough a priority. We did however add sketchup which was a higher requested format and have done several updates to improve performance and fidelity.

You can use the SMT or the SMB.  

These are both neutral Shape Manager Kernel files. The smT is text based. The smB is Binary.  they can be used interchangeably.

I just received a kudos for my workaround and thought I'd update this thread. 123dx files can now be uploaded using Fusion's data panel. Make sure you are in a project then just click upload and select your file. Here's a link to the help on uploading file to Fusion, @schneik-adsk the help doesn't list 123dx can you flag for updating.

Today, it is possible to directly import .123dx files into Fusio 360.

However, as also shown in the video with the workaround above, the material properties of bodies as well as selection grouping information is lost.

This is a real showstopper for me, as I have a model with around 1,500 objects, all with material assigned, and with extensive grouping.
(it is for steering and reefing sails in a historical remote-control ship my son and I are building.)

@HughesTooling, Is there a method to import this information as well?
