I have recently "upgraded" from a Pentium II/400 w/ 128MB and 8MB Diamond
Fire GL to an AMD Athlon 800 MHz based machine with 256 MB and a Matrox G400
MAX Dual-Head.
Unfortunately, it seems that the new machine is slower when it comes to 3D
display-operations in AutoCAD 2000.
Hardware-acceleration is on, the newest (non-beta) Matrox driver is
installed, wopengl6.hdi is new (dated 17-11-1999).
What am I missing? I simply don't accept that it has to be this slow!

Peter,
We don't have quite enough information to make a thorough diagnosis and
we can't comment on the capability of various configurations of
hardware.
However, speed can be a factor of the type and size of the 3D drawing
operations. For example, 3D geometry puts a heavy load on graphics
transformation and one board may have more specialized geometry
processors than the other.
On the other hand if your application is rasterization heavy this would
not be a factor, but we would need further information on bit-depth,
window size, and screen coverage.
We provide more in-depth information on the types of video boards and
how they work with Heidi drivers, on our web pages in the very
informative article "3D Graphics Pipeline in AutoCAD 2000," at
http://www.autodesk.com/develop/devres/heidi/3intr o.htm .

Get the beta drivers for W2K (it that is what you are using) and install those.
