If I switch on Hardware acceleration in Land Desktop 2005 and then click on the 3d Orbit icon Autocad closes immediately without any warnings or error messages.
I have a AMD Athlon 64 (3200+) with a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5950 Ultra, OS - Win XP Pro (32 bit). I think it might be a hardware incompatibility issue with the Heidi drivers.
Does anyone know how to fix this bug?
Thanks

Joseph,
What is the Nvidia driver version you are using and have you checked to see
if you have the latest driver for your graphics card.
The URL to Nvidia's driver downloads for your configuration I believe is:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_56.72
This is for their driver posted back in April '04.
If that's not the problem, I'd need to start collecting some more info from
you - things like can you switch into a SHADEMODE okay or run any other
OpenGL apps on this system?
Thanks,
-Rob

Hi Rob,
Thanks for getting back to me. I have the latest NVIDIA drivers. I have no problems with them under any other software, I am using 3DS Max 5 and it works perfectly with its OpenGL drivers.
LDT chashes under any SHADEMODE other than 2D wireframe. As soon as you select another mode LDT closes.
If you need any other information let me know. I was a bit slow getting back to you as I thought I switched on email notification to this query but it seems to have been switched off again.
Any help will be appreciated.
Joseph

Joseph,
Sure sounds like there must be something weird about your setup. Did you
have any problems enabling hardware acceleration in a previous version of
AutoCAD or LDT?
Maybe you could take a snapshot of you Options-System-Properties dialog so I
could what all of your 3D GS settings are.
I'm going to be out on vacation/sabbatical for several weeks so I may not be
able to respond to this problem immediately. I'll see if I can't get
someone else to check on this issue as well so hopefully we can get it
resolved.
Thanks,
-Rob

to fill you in on what I have tried to get to the bottom of the problem.
Originally I thought it was an incompatapility issue with the cards driver, so I tried other video cards. I tried a PNY FX5200 128 AGP, I could only get theis card to work with drivers up to ver 44.03. Then I tried a Creative GForce 4 TI4400, it to will only work with drivers up to ver 44.03. Since the NVIDIA FX5950 was not supported under that version of the drivers it will not work. I'm have currently using the Creatvie GForce 4 TI4400 and my FX5950 is back in its box.
I thought it might be an installation issue with ACAD 05 so I uninstalled and reinstalled and no change.
I'm not sure where the problem lies now. I think I may retuen the FX5950 card and go for a different brand than NVIDIA enen though I know there is nothing wrong with the card as it works fine with all the other programs I have.
I am including a screen capture of the 3D properties as requested. I have wasted to much time over this issue already. If you would like to check out my system using remote assistance I would be happy to let you, though you would have to let me know first so I could reinstall the card. Mind you, I may just replace the card soon and try my luck with a differ different VPU brand.
Get back to me soon if you think you can help!

I have a question that is probably obvious to most but I don't know how to do it ... what do I do to switch to hardware acceleration and is this the best choice for laptop use?
