looking to buy or build a new computer

I am generally working with laser scanned 3d models, so very high detail.

My current computer is a Inspirion 546 with an amd phenom quad core 2.3 ghz, 8 gb of ram, and a ati radeon hd 4300/4500

one thing that I was informed was that the powersupply really sucks.

not sure if I should attempt to build one, whileI havent done such a thing in a while but feel I should get my feet wet again

Or just bite the bullet and get a new dell. however I really dont want to spend a huge amount of money I was thining at max around 900 something but def under 1k

I was almsot tempted to just get a new dell though I am worried about windows 8:

Windows 8, 64-bit, English
12GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz - 4 DIMMs
16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW), write to CD/DVD
AMD Radeon™ HD 7570 1GB GDDR5
Black w/19:1 Media Card Reader
3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3770 processor (up to 3.90 GHz)
2TB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive 6.0 Gb/s
Dell Wireless 1703 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0+LE
Integrated 7.1 with WAVE MAXXAudio 4
Integrated 10/100/1000 Ethernet

on build I found only had these stats

CPUMotherboardMemoryGPUCaseBoot DriveStorage DriveOptical DrivePSUCPU CoolerOSTotal

Intel Core i7 3770k$340
Gigabyte Z77X-D3H$142
16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz Memory$95
None$0
Antec One Computer Case$50
OCZ Vertex 4 128GB SSD$115
Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB Hard Drive$80
OEM DVD Drive or OEM Blu Ray Drive$20
Corsair CX430 Power Supply$38
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus$25
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit$89
Pricing via Amazon, so no tax or shipping for most USA Residents$994

Any advice you can give would be great right now my comp chugs sometimes, sadly I dont know how to check a polygon count but a faces count I found on the scan I am working on now has 7.5 million faces. So I need something to take the edge off.

What Autodesk software will you be using?
Are you aware of currently unsupported-in-Win8 software from Autodesk: http://autode.sk/TGvR3t
