laptop w/ multiple docking stations

Looking for some info for using multiple docking stations or port
replicators with a laptop using Windows XP Pro. The out of the box
solution says to use multiple hardware profiles "docked" and
"undocked" and then to use the device manager to "enable" and
"disable" devices for each configuration. However, can't get the
following to work:

1. Docked profile on a domain using fixed IP addresses.

2. Docked profile in another location on a workgroup also using fixed
IP addresses.

I have to change the IP settings manually to get connectivity each
time the laptop docks under the other profile. MS Knowledgebase
article 283676 "How To: Use the Alternate Configuration Feature for
Multiple Network Connectivity in Windows XP" looks like it would
work... but only if the domain is using DHCP. Using fixed IP's there
is no tab under properties to use "alternate configuration".

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tom

I don't have your exact problem, but I have a laptop that I take to several
locations, each one with diffrent network parameters. I use the Netswitcher
program available from the the following URL; it works very well. I suspect
it will work for your circumstnce also. Price is very resonable for what it
does.

Alvin,

After checking MS Newsgroups, I looked at netswitcher and ipswitcher
and had already loaded netswitcher. I'm still experiencing problems
from time to time logging onto a domain (and docking station) in one
location and another similar docking station (and workgroup) in
another (network settings change OK, but trouble getting onto the
network). I'm suspecting that the OS is getting confused with two
NIC's ... one in the laptop and one in the port replicator. Latest
troubleshooting is to disable the NIC card in the laptop for the
applicable hardware profiles to see if that helps.
