Logitech MX Revolution - Pan

I'm a sucker for new gizmos, so I now have the new MX Revolution thingy from
Logitech in my palm.
Well guess what, with two scroll wheels at your disposal, you are not able
to make one of them go pan in Autocad or Inventor. I've tried setting the
"normal" wheel to autoscroll and middle button and every other setting I
could find, but no luck.
I now there has been some issues earlier with Logitech mice and pan, but I
believe I've tried all solutions now.
If anyone know a solution to the revolution I would be very happy.

I had also hoped the thumb wheel colud be set to whatever you want, but this
has only a zoom function and program switch.

Still not 100% optimal ergonomics in my opinion, but the best so far.
Battery capasity is very poor from what I can tell from my limited use til
now.

One more thing...double click the middle button (wheel) will not zoom
extents in Autocad either.

I found the answer now, right after posting. This fixed both pan in Autocad
and Inventor as well as dbl click to zoom extends in Autocad. Phu!

Setp 1:
-Click the wheel on the left side after Setpoint is up.
-Set the wheel to "disabled (Overrides application settings)
-set on Always click-to-click.

Setp 2.:
-click mouse on the left side
-now button 3 should be "disable"
-select it and select " other" then " middle button".

How do you like this mouse? Does the SmartShift technology work well?

After I've spent a few days with it, it now is back in it's box

- Ergonomics. It felt good at first, but after some time I acutally got a
"soar joint" in my hand. I had to stop using it, now I'm ok again....
- The new Hyper-fast scrolling and Smartshift needs to be dispabled if you
want panning to work.
- The side button is well placed, but to no use whatsover. (well at least
for cad work)
- Allmost Impossible to do a dbl click with the scroll wheel to enable zoom
extents in Autocad.
- Battery not that bad that I implied earlier (just had not charged it fully
I believe)

Conclusion:
In my case I can't use it due to the bad ergonomics for cad work. (but this
might be just me)
Also the driver for this mouse need to be updated alot to make it usable for
cad.
Looks nice though!

But please don't hate it because I don't like it. Try it at least.

Regards,
Jorgen

I have just purchased the MX Revolution mouse. I need it to be able to pan and zoom extents on the push of the scroll wheel as you did. I am a full time AutoCAD 2007 technician. Please explain in simple terms how you did it.

open up your setpoint control panel
underneath the picture of the mouse find the button that says manage
programs
add your acad.exe
select autocad as the program and change #3 to other> Middle Button
done

for some added productivity I made the following changes as well for autocad
4 keystroke assignment "down" for use with dynamic input
5 keystroke assignment "ctrl+"
6 keystroke assignment "shift+"

No problem.

I need to mention, there might be one other setting to change.

there is a tab on the side specifically for the wheel. Select AutoCAD and
uncheck "allow manual shifting between modes"

Thanks. It's working well now. I am just hoping that the springs in it soften up a bit now. You really have to lean on it to use the press feature on the scroll wheel.

Thanks again

Hi, I have the same problem in 3D Studio Max 9. The problem of the pan thing seems to be ok in other aplications like internet explorer or office, but when I run the max, pan just dont work. I know that we can select the application to apply the settings but they are all the same for max and other apps. Any ideas about this. Is that autodesk or logitech's fault?

since you didn't quote the original post I don't know what you're trying
to figure out but I use a Logitech Revolution and don't have any trouble
panning. If you are using the Logitech SetPoint software, in the My
Mouse tab select your mouse in #1, select AutoCAD Application in #1A,
select #3 Middle Button in #2, and select the other item in #3 and set
the function to Middle button. That, and set MBUTTONPAN in AutoCAD to
<1> and all should lead to happy panning

In the set point software, I set the scroll as "generic". After I did that,
it worked fine.

I have the MX Revolution and have just figured out how to set it up with whatever wheel scrolling settings I want. The important step is to set the scrolling however you want and then change button 3 under the AutoCAD program settings to "Middle Button". For some reason whenever you change the wheel scrolling settings it reverts the button 3 value to "Do Nothing". I truly love this mouse now. I am using "Control Center" version: 4.24.99
