Is there a limit to the amount of RAM AutoCAD/Land Desktop can handle?

Does anybody know the max amount of RAM, AutoCAD/Land Desktop can handle?
The reason I ask is that someone told me that anything over 2GB is not recognized by AutoCAD and just wasted, is this true?
Anybody start with 2GB and add more and notice any difference?

Under normal circumstances the operating system will only handle up to 2 Gb
per application (or is it 2 GB for all application running ?). It is
sometimes possible for the computer to be configured with 3 or more GB of
RAM and the operating system tweeked to have up to 3 GB available, although
getting this configuration to work can be fragile.

Each application will use as much system memory + virtual memory you have in
your computer.

This is straight from HP,
but applies to all Windows XP 32 bit
systems.

Some HP and Compaq PCs
support a physical installation of 4 GB of memory. However, maximum memory is
limited to approximately 3 GB in Windows XP (32-bit Editions). This limitation
is present on all 32-bit PCs and 32-bit operating systems and is not limited to
HP and Compaq systems.

Above 3 GB, all memory may
not be available due to system resource requirements. The memory above 3 GB is
used for PCI I/O and other system resources.

Under normal
circumstances the  operating system will only handle up to 2 Gb
per
application (or is it 2 GB for all application running ?).  It is

sometimes possible for the computer to be configured with 3 or more GB of

RAM and the operating system tweeked to have up to 3 GB available, although

getting this configuration to work can be fragile.

Got that one wrong, Matt.

Neither one of those links has anything to do with Matt's statement. Those
links are only related to "installed" system ram. None of those links
relate to system ram *plus* virtual memory (hard drive paging) that Matt's
talking about.

This must have been a very old thread, because I don't see anything beyond
today's post, so I'm relying on your quote from Matt.

Anything over 3.25GB "system RAM" will be ignored in 32 bit Windows

But that still has nothing to Matt's comment on virtual memory. A different
animal and NOT the same as system memory.

Virtual memory can *include* system memory.

What I posted was in fact incorrectly stated, in that each 32-bit process does
have a 2GB limitation. However, you can have 200 instances of AutoCAD running,
and each one can consume up to 2GB of virtual address space, as long as you have
enough virtual memory to support all 200 instances.

Virtual Memory is not the same as Virtual Address Space.
