Double Monitor

Is it possible to AutoCAD to be configured to have two monitors running at
the same time? I would like to have a full screen of the 2D model and the
other of the 3D model.

Does anybody know of this?

Thanks

You will need a video card that supports dual monitors. I have it at home
with the laptop, and it is fantastic. Haven't quite got them convinced at
the office, but it is the multi-tasker dream. What kind of computer are you
currently running?

There is now a hardware NG. They go nuts over Video cards, and you will
surely know more than you ever wanted to know from them.

Actually, the Digitizer-Display discussion area talk about it all the time,
and have several excellent solutions posted (watch for word wrap):

Paul,

You didn't tell us *what* laptop you have. I'll be pushing for a new one
soon, and I won't get one without dual monitor support this time around.

Fill us in.

It is now over a year old and I am still in
love.  It is quite a sacrifice, especially if you are really looking for a
desktop replacement.  It costs more and doesn't quite compete with what you
can get a desktop for.  I am just mobile enough to justify it,
but the benefits of the mobility in the home has proven convenient.
It is a Dell Inspiron 8100.  15" screen, CD ROM (fixed),
RWCD/floppy(removable), 800Ghz, 512Mb, 20Gig HD, 64Mb
ATI Mobility Radeon 9000
, S-video, 2-USB, Serial infrared communications port, 2 PCI
slots (I am using 1 to connect to the server at work-wireless),
& W2kpro.  I have been able to do what I want with it, no
complaints.  Although, I should have gotten a second battery.  The rep
told me that if I swapped batteries as they drained, that they would last twice
as long.  I thought, how silly, of course they'll last twice as long, but
he meant that the life of the EACH battery would be prolonged
significantly.  Within the first 6 months, the battery was not lasting as
near as long as it did new, and now the battery barely last 20 minutes.  I
usually do not use it away from a power source.  With a 15" screen, it is
not exactly a "laptop", you won't use it on the plane anyway, maybe first class,
but I don't know anything about
that.

I have since ordered 5 more for friends and relatives,
except they are using the 8200 with XP and almost twice the processor
speed, and not to mention they were cheaper than mine.  Man, I hate
that.

I
personally haven't needed it, but the a the 3 year warranty is not a bad
idea.

My current laptop is a Gateway Solo 9300. I love it too, and
it is about 2 pounds less than the Dell. Although it does *not* have dual
monitor support. You would have to pry my laptop out of my cold, dead, seven
fingers (ask Matt! ).

Yeah, you gotta drain those batteries at least once a week to
extend the lifetime.

I have the same laptop but I am not too sure how you run two monitors that
show different information? I can get them to show the same information but
I need something that will show 2D on one screen and 3D on the other...

Let me know how you are doing this with your laptop if you could.

Thanks

Sorry, Robert, I meant to look into that for you this weekend at home. I
will look at it tonight. Have you tried just playing with ALL the settings?
I seem to recall one setting that was "shared desktop", but will look closer
at it this evening.

Looked all through the settings and didn't see anything like that or
"Virtual Screen". I am not too sure if you are using the same driver as I
am.

Well, let's look at this again. 1) Are you able to drag your properties box
over to the other screen? 2) Can you open another application and run it in
the other monitor? 3) Instead of maximizing ACAD, restore down and scretch
the window to the other screen, can you do that? 4) Can you designate a
Primary screen and Secondary screen from the advanced display properties?
5) When you say the same image at both screens, you do mean exactly that?

still trying, but pathetically so...

Answers to your questions are as follows:
1. I can't drag anything over considering that the images on both
screens are the same. It's the same as using a LCD Projector for a
presentation. what I see on my laptop is the same as what you see on the
screen.
2. No...same reason as above.
3. No...same reason as above.
4. I can designate Primary and Secondary which I have done and saved the
Scheme as "dual". But the image is the same as my laptop.
5. Read Above.

I don't think it can be done without using 3rd party software... Let me
know how you did this.

This stumped me for days and now that I realize what I didn't figure it out,
I have to laugh at myself,,,
In your display properties, choose a resoultion that is twice what you have
now. (in my case I switched from 1600x1200 to 3200x1200) and you need to
"Extend desktop" from the primary to the secondary display. This will extend
the desktop across both displays at the resolution you choose.

BTW, I have an Angel laptop 1.8P4 with the 64meg Radeon card on a 15.1"
display. I don't use it as a desktop replacement although it sure qualifies
as one. :o)
