3d graphics Harware accelleration

From 3d graphics sytem configuration in options, the default for
accelleration is software. But if I check hardware, how do I know what
driver to use? I am playing with a new pci video card and thought I would
try the acceleration.

This is my card:

What else do you need to know to help me? I have had nice video cards, but
haven't ever got increased performance from the hardware accelleration.
Either I wasn't doing it right or the card just wasn't geared for CAD. Any
advise would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul,

Following info is a combination of nVidia and Autodesk's info:

======================
Check out Autodesk Knowledgebase article TS22080: "AutoCAD now uses
the special acceleration features of the graphics card, instead of the
default software acceleration. Note: For graphics cards to use this
feature, AutoCAD-compatible drivers (HDI) must be supplied by the
manufacturer of the graphics card."

Not sure about the following but maybe someone else can correct or
clarify... I'm assuming that you have a windows nVidia driver but that
to achieve hardware acceleration benefits, you may need to load an
application (AutoCAD) specific driver... nVidia's Powerdraft or maybe
just the latest nVidia drivers?

Check out Knowledgebase TS37776 "If you have a video card that
supports hardware-accelerated OpenGL, and you have 3D hardware
acceleration enabled, you do not have to install an HDI driver.
However, if the manufacturer of your video card has published an
AutoCAD HDI driver for this card, Autodesk Product Support recommends
that you install the driver to take better advantage of the
capabilities of the video card."

Check out "autocad certified driver" at

Check out the pdf "Users Guide" and "Release Notes" at

Paul,

Following info comes from the architectural studio extension for
Adt3.3. It says that the nVidia card that you have is "found to work
well when using the 3d hardware acceleration feature". If it works
well for AAS, I assume that this is ditto for acad and adt.

Help file for AAS:
=======================
Recommended 3D Graphics Cards. The following list contains 3D
graphics cards we have tested and found to work well when using the 3D
hardware acceleration feature:
GeForce2 Go
GeForce2 MX
GeForce3 Ti
GeForce4 Go
GeForce4 MX
GeForce4 Ti
Personal Cinema (uses the GeForce2 MX)
Quadro DCC
Quadro2 EX
Quadro2 Go
Quadro2 MXR
Quadro2 Pro
Quadro2 Go GL
Quadro2 NVS
Quadro2 XGL
TNT2
Vanta/Vanta LT

I use the woepng7.hdi driver that is in AutoCAD. I have no idea actually if
this is better or worse at this point. Nothing goes wrong, so I figure it
is ok.

If you install the powerdraft software you get an Nvidia driver that
installs in the same folder as the woepng7.hdi driver, but the problem is
that you now have Powerdraft installed. Not that there is anything wrong
with that, but I didn't like it much. I tried just copying and pasting the
nvidia driver into the folder and not installing Powerdraft, but then
everytime I opened AutoCAD it said it could not find Powerdraft. Everything
seemed to work fine except for that message.
