T-Spline bug surface smoothing

From time to time TS gives be bad results like this one:

As you can see there are many edges that look creased and other parts being soft. However this is just the imported mesh. No creasing!

 

This is the way it should looke (this model is a different offset):

Any idea what is going wrong here: OBJ file is attached.

There is a small crack between the polys on the input mesh.  After conversion you can use Weld Vertices to glue them together.  I set the tolerance to 2.0 mm and box selected the offending vertices.
