Directory holding problem with Mac running Mavericks

Hi I noticed a directory holding problem with the updated program running in Macs with Mavericks OSX. For old files and new creations the program could not hold the present directory position in  Macs  in every Export Archive, Export and Save as STL operations. I tested it out yesterday, only on Imported f3d file the directory seems to hold. To make it clearer:

eg: the directory tree is  \document\magic briefcase2\3D\jewelry\pendant\pendant x

After a file was created or edited in Fusion360 and after the file is updated into the cloud, subsequent operations like " Export Archive", "export" and "Save as STL" would default directory back to \document\  and I had to navigate thru the directory tree again. Only one instant of "Importiing" a file from my local Mac (f3d format) the directory tree seems to hold. I posted this same message yesterday but at 4am last night HK time after an import it seems to work. So I deleted the message. This morning I tried again on File editing and  creation  the directory problem had come back. This happened to all my four Mac computers running Mavericks OSX latest version.

Hi Kingson,

If I understand the workflow correctly, you are:

1. Importing an .F3D file to your Fusion 360 hub from the below location on your machine

~/Documents/magic briefcase2/3D/jewelry/pendant/pendant x

2. Next, edit the file and save a new version

3. From the Design work space, you choose Export Archive from the main application menu

4. In the 'Export Archive' dialogue box, the default directory is

~/Documents

The expected or desired behavoir is that the default directory for the Export Archive dialogue is the last directory that was successfully utilized. In this case, it is the direcotry from which the file was imported from,

~/Documents/magic briefcase2/3D/jewelry/pendant/pendant x.

Does this sound correct?

Hi Nathan,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, your work flow on this First Import and subsequent Export Archive, Export to STP, SAT, and even Save To STL is correct and the directory always go back to \document\magic briefcase2\3D\jewelry\pendant\pendant X "THE FIRST TIME".

This morning I did the experiment on the same file that was imported, I changed material, Saved back to autodesk,  tried exporting file again and found that the directory defaulted back to just \document on every export or save to operations.

So that was exactly what I was trying to say. New File Creation or old file Editing, that was already saved or exported in varies format in the computer or other computers with same account and file location (it is because \magic briefcase2\ is a Sugarsync Directory so the file location will also be syned), always defaulted to \document .. But before the Fusion 360 update or Mavericks update the directory workflow always worked. It is only after the updating it started not to work. I am not sure whether it is Mavericks that is not compatible yet or Fusion360.

However, the same file which was imported from a directory, when edited the first time, and exported back to same directory was alright. Only after the program is closed and maybe machine is closed, then program started then it did not work again and I did have to navigate back to the ...\pendant x directory in every export or save to.

I hope this reply is a little bit better on the problem. It might be a compatibility problem with Mavericks since they already went through a second small update I noticed.

Thanks for replying anyway and if my problem could not be duplicated (as usual) on your side, then it is possible that our Asian Version Mavericks might be a little different from yours. My versions are all in English by the way. I do not use Chinese Nor other language on any computers.

Thanks and have a nice weekend. It is Friday morning in Hong Kong now.

Oh by the way, I do use Fusion360 nearly everyday because I designed all our commercial retail products using this program. So I will notice any strange behaviour that might not be normal.

OK I edited this reply the third time because I think it could be the problem with Mavericks. It is because I did noticed some Sugarsync file sync problems lately with the new Mavericks. Some files did not sync like before. I also noticed Sugarsync seems to had been updating a few times recently. They updated again yesterday. Another program called CleanMyMac 2 had been updating very frequenly also ever since I updated to the new Mavericks. Even programs like Pages, Numbers, Aperture,  had to be updated to Maverick version and files seems to had been coverted to a new format or structure.  A notification flashed out "Your files will be updated to a new format and old program cannot open this file anymore". or something similar. Their ipad IOS7 also went thru a second update because the first update from IOS6 to IOS7 seems to have some filing problems as well. Evernote also updated a few times but their files can be read by old format.

Thanks for your patience! I appreciate that!

Hi I did some more tests in the office computer that also has the sugarsync program with exactly same directory. I opened a Fusion360 file and export archive to a brand new non sugarsync directory structure, then tried to export to same directory but the program defaulted to \document\ instead. So this directory navigation program is not related to Sugarsync directory.

Kingson,

I was able to update to Maverick, yesterday, and run a quick test, today. Below are the results I found

During a brand new session of Fusion 360

/Document is the default directory for all commands (Import, Export Archive, Export, Save As STL...)

After using a command one time, the default directory was the last used the last time the command was executed. For example, if I Import a file from ~/Documents/CAD Models/GrabCAD, the next time that I go to the Import command in my hub, the command defaults to the ~/Documents/CAD Models/GrabCAD directory. This appears to be the same behavior for all other commands, until I restart Fusion360.

Does your user account have full Admin privileges? Perhaps you could have an administrator log into your machine and test the same procedure to see if there is a change in behavior?

Thanks,

Hi Nathan, thanks for your reply. I am the only one using all these personal computers. Like I said most problems might not be duplicated in other locations but my symtoms happened to all my Apple computers with different configurations (iMac, Mac Mini, Apple Air). But that is fine. I am sure that after you used the program for a while you yourself might notice the problem. (I did found one bug that the team accepted, the mixed up between Radius and Diameter).  The major things that I also noticed, and you might want to take a look is:

Before the update, when exporting to local directory (export archive, export, save as STL) the title bar is blank. Now it says " untitle.stl, or "untitle.stp" or "untitle.f3d" this never happened before so I would say the development team did make some changes to these. In fact I like the old way better. Now i have to navigate to the specific folder everytime, wipe out the "untitle.f3d" and enter a name. Maybe that is a safety feature but anything that increases the time it takes in a workflow is really not good for people using the program non stop. Judging from the unstable (yes it is) condition of fusion 360, we learnt to save our changes all the time, to Autodesk as well as to our local disk. Why I still said that it is unstable? Try doing push pull, or some dragging operations on very small objects say less than 0.5mm size it might freeezes. that happened to me all the time but I learnt to live with it.

Well thanks for replying and I really appreciate that !
