Curiousity with Move operations

Apologies if this is a double up on another thread.

had an issue that's popped up in a couple of instances (with the same dataset, albeit a pretty heavy one) where there's some inconsistencies with moving large numbers of components/bodies.

As you can see below, the components line up quite nicely (although there's little in the way of constraints applied - the positions are from import), when carrying out a move/rotate, a couple of the bodies always seem to shift in a different way to that prescribed by the operation/parameters..

As is

After a move/rotate (origin is shifted to the front axle axis) of around 7.5 deg - the gasket component pops out or doesn't move at all...

Any ideas what can be done to cure it, rather than full definition of assembly constraints. It's a big model, i know, but this has occured on a couple of occassions and I'm not too sure whether it's an error in my selection method (box select)..

Hey Al,

Cool model! I know we have some features in progress that will make this work flow much smoother. Stay tuned for those...  As for right now, I'm curious if the gasket is a body, or a component or if there is a sketch profile involved with it. Could you share screen shots of the model browser or a the even the model for closer inspection? You can invite me (nathan DOT chandler AT autodesk DOT com) to the Group and the Design in your hub. Or just shoot me an e-mail and I can set up a transfer site.

Are you sure that the gasket is being selected when you are performing the move/rotate command? One approach available this moment may be to simplify the gasket/gasket cover bodies and components by using the Model > Combine feature to make one component, one body out of two. Then try the move/rotate..

Hope that helps!

Having sat in on the hangout earlier this week, I think it's down to the bodies vs. component issue - much of the engine plant is bodies imported and the components have been converted only when an edit it needed.. I'll share the data by all means - it's a mix of grabcad models, some raw design stuff and whatnot..

For ref: The gasket isn't a body, seperate component, although buried a few levels down. The component was selected as part of a box select, so it should have picked it up. Seen it happen in a couple of different areas

There's a new feature in the update released today, it's called Rigid Group. It allows you to quickly group components together that should move together without having to create a bunch of joints. It's available when you right click on a component in the browser. It's pretty easy to convert bodies to components, so it should be pretty quick solution whether its a body or component.

Give it a try and let us know what you think. Thanks!
