maybe a few of us members of this showcase community already know autodesk has buyed, a few months ago, the license of vred.
so what's vred?
vred seems to be "showcase with steroids". a more vast and powerfull tool, with many options for a better visualization.. or at least it looks so:
http://www.autodesk.com/products/vred/compare-products
as part of the autodesk students agreement for free software, i'm now downloading a free version of vred professional..
if it's possible i will run a direct comparison and a small review.
but first, a little question for you:
has anyone tested vred already?
and specifically for Marion :
do you have any idea of what autodesk has planned for the two softwares?
i mean, they seems to have quite the same purpose..
do they plan to keep both?
do they plan to merge the two softwares into a more powerful tool?
did they even plan something or they just went "buy buy buy, we have more softwares now"?
Vred.... and do you know KeyShot?
watch this....
I know that Autodesk bought Vred for the automotive industries. Vred is the leader for that purpose. Every examlpe that a saw on Vred was a car....
I had tested it for a while, and i saw a very powerfull software.
You can do much more things that showcase doesn't do, Vred has a better rendering engine...
But it is much more complex to use.
Showcase is much more user friendly. Less features, but well designed.
For now i know that autodesk keep the 2 softwares (maybe 3... with keyshot....).
I dont kwow what autodesk do with showcase pro....

Yes, Vred is now an Autodesk Product and mainly addopted by the Automotive industry.
You know that I cannot share Autodesk plans for the future or any inside information I might be aware of... The information you will find on the Autodesk Website is accurate and is the same information I can share with you.
I have not personally tried Vred as of now.

hi marion!
thank you anyays for the answer!
at first look i can confirm what christian said, vred is completely not intuitive/user friendly..
it took me a while just to understand how to select things..
looks much more similar to RTT Deltagen..
i will have a deeper look in the next weeks maybe
Hi guys,
I have been using VRED for a few months now and I used Keyshot for a few years during a product design degree. I think that VRED does create vastly better results than Keyshot but it is a little more complex to use.
The only trouble I am having with VRED is the application of Labels/Decals as I want to use it for packaging renders. Does anyone have any experience of this? I can seem to apply a label over an object. I can get it to appear as a texture but then the label is affected by the base material colour.
Many thanks!
HI,
this is a SHowcase Forum. You might want to direct your VRED questions to a more appropriated space.
Showcase and VRED are two different software. I have not used VRED personaly.
Thanks
Marion
When a file from Alias (or other source) is opened in VRED for the first time you are presented with the option of creating a Skydome Environment. If the Skydome option is not selected initially how can it be added later?
Sorry but this is not a Vred forum.
