Ugly faces in Showcase from FBX exported from Max 2014

As you can see in the attached picture, I don't get plain faces when I import a FBX from MAX.

Any ideas what I have done wrong?

You need to use FBX 2013 version when exporting from Max 2014. Watch this video:

This was the problem, thank you. FBX2013 fixed it.

does this also affect baked shadows? because i'm getting strange artifact on that, both in SC 2013 and 2014

Do you mean baked shadows that you did in 3ds Max Design? It should not.. but then again.. without visual, it's hard to know what is going on.
