Problem with Inventor 2015 DWG files and Showcase 2014

I have received exporteddwg files from inventor 2015.

They can be imported, rendered and saved in Showcase 2014 without problem.

However when I open a previos saved files, showcase quit with the follow meggage:

"A software problem has caused Showcase to close unexpectedly"

Is there any file format there can be exported from Inventor 2015 without causing this issue?

The client also send me the following file format, which could not be imported into sowcase 2014: .ipt .iam .step

I have only acced to the 2014 suit.

Thanks,

Fin

Have yiou tried with Inventor Export Option and different release format?

Export > Cad Data

A particularly effective export format, in my opinion, is the Catia format. It often success in many cases where other cad format fails.

Finally..just a curiosity is your assembly particularly big?

Let me know if you will success.

I forwared your suggestion to the client, and got files back ther is working.

My showcase files can now be both saved and opend without showcase quitting on me.

Thanks,

Fin

I am glad you found a solution. However, I would highly suggest that if you are working with Inventor, you should import the native format either .iam or .ipt. This will insure that you keep an active link between both software and therefore are able to update the model at a later time without loosing your work in Showcase.

I suggest you watch these 3 videos:

Hi Marion

Thanks for your reply. and the 3ish videos

I also prefer to work with the native files, which we do with our inhouse workflow.

I have shocase 2014 and the client for this project is sending inventor 2015 files. (i dont have access to inventor 2015)

Both .ipt and .aim files fail to import into my showcase. I have no problem importing our inhouse Inventor 2014 files.

Is there any setting i have overlooked or could this be a common versions issue?

You can't open 2015 inventor files withowt the 2015 version.

Showcase use an Inventor server Application to read and import Inventor files. So, if you don't have the correct version you can't open theese files.

The only workaround is what admaiora suggest.

That us correct, you won't be able to open Inventor 2015 files in Showcase 2014. You need to either:

  • Save the Inventor model into Inventor 2014 scene (you might loose some information)
  • Download and install Showcase 2015 🙂 You can install the trial version which will give you 30 days to work on your project.

Good luck

Hello there,

I found Inventors IGS export very capable. Apart from textures the geometry is pre-

served quite well. Not native- yet soothingly fast and reliable when imported in Show-

case.

Kind regards

Daniel
