Double Swing Doors

I've a double door whose opening is controlled by a parameter 'Swinge Angle' which I exported from Revit as a fbx file. I'd like these doors to open in Showcase at the same time instead of one after the other, but can't figure out how this might be done and would appreciate any input on a technique that can do this. Thank you very much.

HI brublr,

You need to create a Keyframe animation in Showcase to animate the door properly.

or if you already have the animation, you need to include it in a slide and adjust the timing and how the behavior is played within the slide.

Have a look at these few videos for guidelines:

Hope this helps

Thanks, Marion – I’d seen those tutorials; tho not yet all of them. It looks as if just one item at a time can be animated then. I was hoping to open the two side by side double doors at the same time by means of some obscure method or other, but opening them quickly one after the other isn’t so bad, either; so that’s an “Accept as Solution”.
and Thanks again. Bruce Blair

You can animate them both at the same time by adding both behavior to the same story board slide.

No problem at all..

Thanks, Marion. with your assurance, I found that the doors would work if I built them separetly in Revit and fbx'd them out separetly. They don't seem to work as a unit if built and imported as a unit

Seems Like Im having a problem with the behaviours and opening and closing doors.

Ive looked at the 2nd video Marrion recommkended and it still dosnt work.

Im trying to Open & Close the doors. Ive been trying everything and just cant figure out how to close them. It works ok until i turn the doors off.I then try to close the doors after the reset earlier and it still wont work.

Ive even created a behaviour close doors and nothing seems to be able to close the doors after I turn the doors on and off?

Any help is appreciated

I never did close the double doors in my animation, but I found I had to separately construct each door and separately fbx them out. I'd suggest separately animating each door with a separate behavior and loading two open in one slide and then separately creating a closing behavior for each door and loading them together in the next slide or wherever is appropriate for the animation.  I did find the doors have to be perfectly made in Revit or the behavior can get cranky so be sure of that also.

HI, It's hard to know from a still image what is going on with the animation.

keyframe animation are really basic and straight forward.

I don't know how else to explain it other then what I have already explained in this video:

http://youtu.be/VM3gh_08M9I

I am sure you have introduced either a "double action" or you forgotten about something..

Creating keyframe animation and playing them are different actions.

When you add the keyframe animation/behavior to the story board slide, you need to play from start first.

Then you need to decide what happen after.

Explain a bit more what you are doing or record what you are doing and share, I can help you further more.

Marion,

Below is jing capture of Double swing doors problem.

http://screencast.com/t/oGV2TOV6lokw

Ive tried many different variables of the open and close setting eg LH door open & RH door open then LH door close & RH door close and its still having problems closing at the finish when I turn on back  on the visibility of everything. I've tried locating the close behaviour before I turn doors and covers off and it works.

The Problem is that when I locate any option of the close command, eg Stop and reset to end then Play backward from end options also, The doors wont close if I locate the close behaviour after I turn off, then back on the visibility?

Thanks for sharing the screen capture, it really does help understand what you are talking about.

Few things you need to understand:

  1. Adding behavior is kind of a one time actions.
  2. Since you can only play the behavior one one per slide, you can't actually play it the same way twice in the same slide.\

What you are doing is creating on SUPER long slide with multiple actions in it.

What you should do is create MULTIPLE slide with one action per slide

slide 1: 2-3 shots + bahavior : Door open (play forward)

Slide 2: 2-3 shots + behavior : Door Close (play forward) You don't need to reset, the door are already closed

Slide 3: Visibility alternative

Slide 4: 2-3 shot

Slide 5: 2-3 shots + Behavior: door open

Slide 6: 2-3 shot + Behavior: door close

Since you can only play the behavior once per slide, it explain why it's not working for you.

I you devide your complete presentation in multiple slides, you will be fine.

Have a look at this video for example
