Wall Worm Model Tools -- Making it easier to export models, collision models and LODs in 3ds

I've just released a new tool for automating many of the steps in creating a model for the Valve Source Game Engine inside 3ds Max. The tool is not in a final stage, but it is now where I think it can be released for use and input.

What this tool does:

1) Makes QC (text files) required for compiling models. The QC parameters are controlled by the models/settings made in the 3ds UI.

2) Set collision models--and automatically apply the necessary smoothing groups

3) Auto-generate LOD models

4) Control LOD switch distances with visual tools

5) Export all models into SMD files along with the QC file

I've only tested the tool in 3ds Max 2011 64-bit.

Please share any feedback and bugs.

I've updated the tool and the video included in the intro post. You can now send models straight from 3ds into Source. The tool also now supports sequences and animations. Watch the video for a demonstration.

Version 1.4 is out. Now does batch processing and meshes as well as exporting models and textures (you can do multiple models in scene at once, in other words). Also added support for multiple $bodygroups (which new video demonstrates).

I've also added a new docs page to help explain path setup more for those having problems getting the exporters to work.

* Material Library Generator (Source textures to 3ds Max material libraries)
* Maple 3D Convex Hull Wrapper Integration**
* Quick Hull from model with Maple 3D Convex Hull Wrapper**
* Worm Face utility to lift/dump textures from/to faces like in Hammer
* Rad Worm to create map-specific lights.rad files from scene materials
* Soundscaper to create skeleton soundscape file from soundscape entities in scene**
* Fix to output rotation of model when using Use Local Origin
* Many other additions, changes, fixes


** Features denoted with (**) require a valid installation of Convexity from Maple 3D.

Latest updates include extended Brush Texture export capabilities, like an overview exporter (for mods like Counter-Strike) and decals.

Many MANY updates since the last post.

 

Now there is really no limit to exporting 3ds Max scenes into the Source game engine. With Wall Worm, you can export World Geometry, Displacements, Models, lights, entities, entity scripting, materials, textures, 3d skies, 2d skies and more.

 

You can also import VMF, MAP, VMT, SMD and VBSP files into 3ds Max with Wall Worm now.
