painting sharp edges in Mudbox

it seems it's impossible to paint sharp edges in mudbox (ie when painting there is no softness to the brush)... is there a good way to do this that i'm missing?

What sort of sharp edges do you want? Maybe could you post an image or short video of what you're looking for and what you'd like to see?

i'm just trying to paint without that slight blur on the edges of the brush.

just paint on a sphere and see what it looks like.

Use a sharp falloff with no ramp, you'll get what you're looking for. Either that or increase the resolution of the texture that you're working on.
