My method for Projection in Smoke

Hi there, thought I'd share a way to get a projection using the default toolset (no hack).

I hope you find it useful.

Everything works like putting a gel in front of a lamp in the real world. (except you can actually put the gel behind the lamp in this setup).

You can adjust the brightness of the projection by either adjusting the light level or by scaling the lamp with an axis.

Note: You can try other light types (spot etc) but it's worth doing a test render if you are moving the light or camera.

Enjoy.

I tested this out and it is really a wonderful hijack of tools. I have never seen this done and its just one more thing that makes the tools in Smoke so deep.

Thanks for sharing this Tony.
