Introduce yourself!

I think it would be good for all of us to introduce ourselves and put some faces to the names. I’ll start it off:
Share a picture, location, background, and 5 fun facts/interests.

______________________________________________________________

Hey everyone! I’m Kat, and I manage the Facebook page for Fusion 360. I work in Autodesk's Portland office, and started here just over a year ago.

I’m a recent MechE grad (Cornell) with a background in product + industrial design. So, happily, Fusion 360 is near and dear to my heart because I know the collaboration between technical/engineering and creative/design is long overdue. I’m so happy to be part of this project!

5 fun facts

  • I love drawing, painting and graphic design - especially enjoy watercolors and art nouveau.
  • Even though I live in the coffee capital of the US, I'm a hardcore tea enthusiast.
  • I spent 3 months in India for an internship at a product design startup.
  • I've programmed a robot.
  • When I need a mental "time out," I knit!

Hey, I'm Will, I'm a User Researcher on the Fusion 360 team.  I take the specifications from the customer and bring them down to the software engineers Smiley Tongue

Graduated from Notre Dame with double major in Industrial Design + Aerospace Engineering.  Almost finished with my Masters in Human Factors & Ergonomics at Oregon State.  Just have to defend that pesky thesis.  That will happen soon.  I'm really happy with the path I've taken and super enjoy working in the space where all these fields overlap.  Fusion 360 is cool.

When I have spare time I like to code (seriously) and am way into generative art + algorithmic design.  I'm pretty good with Processing and have started to noodle around in other languages / libraries like Cinder and VVVV.  Crossing my fingers for a Fusion 360 API!

Hey all!!!

My name is Garin Gardiner and I am a Product Manager for Fusion 360. I have a long history with design tools like Inventor, 3D Studio Max, Rhino, SolidWorks and a host of other applications. I have been at Autodesk almost 10 years as a Product Manager for Fusion 360, Inventor and TinkerBox. Previous to Autodesk I designed roller coasters which had a lot of ups and downs so I found my way over to an Autodesk reseller.

I love the intersection of design and engineering and can't wait to tell the world about Fusion 360!!!

In my spare time, I am either playing with my family, on one of my four bikes, restoring my 1969 GMC pickup or playing video games.

Hi all

my name is Claas Kuhnen. I a German designer living in Detroit. I have a background in graphic and interactive design as well as product and jewelry design. In my workflow I switch between CAD and character animation programs and like to explore how modeling approaches from one discipline can be used to solve creative issues for product design.

I teach industrial design at Wyane State University where I introduce the students to the same poly nurbs solid animation workflow where we focus very much on the creative design thinking aspect of 3D in a non software specific philosophy.

I also work as a freelance designer doing design cad work and rendering. Here are some of my personal projects.

Having worked with polygon modeling and nurbs for a very long time I am excited to see a large company like Autodesk realizing this potential and bringing this to designers with Fusion360.

Nice to meet you, Claas! Love the projects you've shared. Are those headphones for sale? 😉 My Autodesk colleages know that red is my favorite color - and those look awesome!

Nice to meet you too Kat - being jealous about the trip to India. Must have been an impressive journey.

I am happy that you like the headphones, but they are not in production - yet. I wear glasses and always get annoyed with the pressure points those create and as it turns out there are many who think the same way.

Here is a different slide showing the features:

This was a fun project because I used mainly animation tools in Blender to rig the model and then bend it into shape and move parts to see if the concept will actually even work.

Howdy!

I’m Nathan Chandler, a Portland via Dallas Product Support Specialist for Inventor.  I’ve been part of the support team for roughly 1.5 years at Autodesk. My past experience has been split between software development and automotive engineering for the last ten years with software development taking the lion’s share of that time. As a square mechanical engineer, I’m very excited to dig in with the power of sub-d and help you leverage Fusion360 to create innovative designs! For fun, I enjoy watching any motorsport, especially Formula 1 racing, and tinkering in the garage.

I can’t wait to see what everyone is imagining, designing and creating with Fusion 360 in their hands!

Hi all,

I apologize for my bad English writing, understanding, speaking and so on...

I apologize also because I have not so much time left to be there (even if I just stopped my facebook account and some other social networks 😉

But I will do my best !

An abstract to let you know who I am (so maybe you will be able to explain it to me ! 😉 :

I started in working life in the 80's by a career as a sound-engineer (both laser and... vinyl !)  before becoming independent IT professional (software development and consulting for both international companies and small businesses). After having carried out some projects that I hope useful for people in the fields of new technologies, I'm working now on family business in building, I'm involved personally in R&D for some inventions for real life and for boating : www.conceptarum.com ; www.nauticaerium.com

Some will go so far as to say that I live now far of urban society while near the sea on the French Riviera, carving bits of wood to build boats and requesting cormorants to bring back my daily fish... And you know what? They are not-quite wrong! 😉

Here a photo of me, last Automn :

(you can see laid on my SUP the 1st prototype of the Velalae, a fast and easy wing-sail, and behind the "Golden Islands" in front of Hyères-les Palmiers)

20121120 SUPerGuy 533x300.JPG

Well, I hope I will be able to try (and beta-test) Fusion 360 to make an animated 3D version of my mechanical winding. (Google thranslate widget at the top right if needed)

See you later,

Guy

Nice to meet you Guy! Are you from France, then? Love that you build boats! Much of my family grew up near the sea (Bay of Fundy in Canada), so I learned a lot about ships from my grandfather.

Thanks Kat, yes, I'm from France, French Riviera, Toulon to be more precise, yes, near the sea.
You know in fact I don't build boats, I was just kidding speaking about cormorants and so on just to tell I'm not anymore in the computer world as I worked before... O:-)

But yes I invent some things for boats really, and yes I work very often on the sea testing my prototypes.

You know what ? Just the cool happiness !

Hey Kat,

thank you for your reply and sorry for my late reply.

I am using Fusion 360 for my personal designs, and personal R&D projects
such as my original necklace & ring design, aerospace design staff,
and open source 3D printer etc...

I learned about CATIA and AutoCAD for designing Aerospace stuff at collage.

I have been seeking 3D design tools for personal use, also simultaneously making own in-house 3DCAD from user's point of view.

I hope Autodesk provide amazing design tools for us!

oh about my in-house CAD, I have been trying to combine several theories and algorithms into one scheme and system. (ex. 5D conformal geometric algebra, totally four-dimensional homogeneous processing approach, Solid generation from Orthographic views based on non-manifold geometric models + ATMS, Kitta-Cube voxel system, extended triangulation b-rep algorithms, quarter edge data structure, and radial edge data structure etc)
some theories were developed by Japanese researchers.

It is really hard work to creating 3DCAD system 😞

Hello all. My name is Mark Tippin and I'm a Sr. User Experience Manager with Autodesk, focused on Autodesk Exchange (Apps, Materials for Cloud and Desktop products). I'm keenly interested to learn from Fusion 360 customers how they would define the best experience for finding and acquiring new content - and to what extent they are interested in publishing their own content into a marketplace within A360.

MTbyRodier.png

Five "Fun Facts" about Mark Tippin:

1. This is his second time with Autodesk - in the mid-90's he was a Product Manager for "Hyperwire" an award-winning, object-oriented, visual Java authoring tool. (It was way ahead of its time - 240k .jar download was too much for most people's dial-up connections, sadly.)

2. He was invited to participate in a book of digital illustrations about the Monkees with Davey Jones himself (R.I.P.)

3. The caricature above was done for by Denis Rodier at a 5-day retreat with the members of King Crimson.

4. In the 80's he formed a punk band and played gigs with MDC, The Exploited, Dag Nasty, Dr. Know, D.O.A. and others.

5. He is rather fond of vintage Airstream trailers and has refurbished a few of them.

Hello true belivers. I'm Patrick and I manage and create content for the Fusion help. I've been with Autodesk for 4 years (sabbatical!!) but have been using Autodesk products since 2000 (Acad, AcadE, AcadM, and Inventor). I have a BS in Mech Engineering from Ohio U but have spent most of my career training and supporting Autodesk software.

When I'm not at work, I'm with my family or suffering through another heartbreaking Cleveland sports season (The Drive, The Fumble, the 95 World Series, the 97 World Series, Lebron...). I also teach at TechShop - Detroit occasionally. And I'm a tremendous comic book (Spider-man) fan.

Glad to meet everyone and if you have any requests for help content or tutorials, let me know!
