adaptive viewport degradation

adaptive viewport degradation

I was having a play with Inventor trying to figure out why navigation in Inventor was so much faster than in Fusion, and it seems that it has one giant advantage, very fast viewport degradation when moving, zooming and orbiting etc. Fusion appears to be manipulating the fully rendered geometry at all times. Inventor instantly simplifies the geometry which makes for very speedy workflow and visually it's hardly noticable.

If this is the case I would love to see this added to Fusion. Working on anything even mildly complex is tough going at the moment and I think this would allay a lot of speed complaints.

Static vs manipulated..

Thank you for your idea smeggy. This one is interesting - we currently don't have any plans to do this right now, but are open to see what other people think. In terms of performance, there are a couple of ways you can improve the speed at which you move around your model depending on the specs of your machine.

1. Performance vs. display

2. Toggling display effects

3. box mode in edit form

Here's a video on how to do it 🙂

Interesting idea - we do not have plans to do this yet, but are open to more feedback from other users. In the meantime, please refer to the video response above.

Thanks,

I already have everything set to speed Vs. pretty. I tested Fusion against Inventor LT and Inventor Fusion and both the latter have viewport degradation and run at similar speeds when navigating, at a rough guestimation, at least 2x the nav speed. In extrude type operations, Inventor is really fast, IF and F3D are more similar being somewhat slower. I guess Inventor has a whole bunch of optimizations that make most operations faster, it being a more mature platform.

On more modern machines the difference is probably not as noticable, on my older machine the difference is stark. Where Inventor flies, Fusion bogs. If I could upgrade my machine I probably wouldn't have mentioned it. Sadly that's not on the horizon right now so I'm glad you're considering it.
