Render: Volumetric shader for light sources

Render: Volumetric shader for light sources

Designs that include lights sources should be renderable with the light source effect considered in the ray tracing. So please include an option to render lights with a volumetric shader.

Hi Panzinip, just so I understand the ask here, you want to have materials that emit light in the scene? Like an LED light for instance and have the ability to control how much light is emitted and have it show in the ray tracing?

I would love this feature.  I'm looking for a way to render a volumetric lightsource from a surface mounted LED.  I'm assuming from this post that it is not possible.  Bummer.  Would be a useful feature.

bump - I feel like it should be possible as there are emmisive appearances.  The renderer (assuming its opengl) obviously supports multiple light sources and their materials/appearance library /knows about them in the properties.  Shouldn't be that hard.  I could have sworn it was already implemented though....

There are Emissive materials in the software currently under Other > Emissive.

Light objects will be added next year.  Release TBD.

Designing lighting fixtures then not being able to render a light in them is a no go, thus requiring an export to another render platform. Please create some kind of ability to add a light to a scene, object, material, whatever - I'm not too picky but we need to be able to add lights!  Thanks!

Ok, I'm a newbie - there are emmisive materials!  Sorry.

@matthewsclark - emissive materials can be planes that are used as lights to light up a scene.  Like, say you wanted more light at a specific angle on a component.  You could create a plane to any size you wanted, control the distance, and the intensity of the emission.  It's great to learn Blender, as you can do this there.  You could even make a curved plane.

To F360 Group - still no Emissive Material option?  Could really use it.  It would save a lot of time.  Thanks.

Whoops!  My mistake, the Emissive feature is there under 'Other' folder.  Really, a nice feature.  Thank you Autodesk!
