using shape files with Autocad 2000

I have admittedly old software, Autocad Archirectural Desktop 2000, but it still serves my purposes and I can't afford to upgrade as I am a one person drafting service doing geological mapping. One of my clients wants to send me "shape" files. Can I use them in my system? If yes, are there any tips to know ? I would greatly appreciate your help.

This isn't the right group for this question. You want
    Autodesk.AutoCAD.2008 (or similar).

    You can use shape files.

    Hi pdsmaps,

There are two types of "Shape File"

One is a very simple file which has been part of AutoCAD ever since I
can remember. It may have an extension of SHP, or have been compiled
and have an extension of SHX. If it is one of those, then put it in
your AutoCAD fonts Folder and read how to use it from the AutoCAD help.

The other (and more likely in this case) is a GIS file folder
containing lots of files and you will not be able to read it with your
software. You will need to upgrade to either MAP or Civil 3D.

Admittedly it is hard to learn to use, but you will find tools in Civil
3D which makes your life so much easier for doing Geological mapping
that you will wonder why you ever used an inappropriate product like
    Autocad Archirectural Desktop 2000

I've used a program called arcv2cad for converting gis shape files to cad.
    Works pretty good.

Shapes are part of autocad not ADT/ACA so it's the right group just not the
    right NG.
    This is for posting files.
