FMDesktop API?

I've been waiting for 16 years (no kidding) to be able to develop a specific
solution for certain facility owners and operators. Is FMDesktop going to
support development using the .NET Framework? What is known at this time
about its intended integration with Revit? Is there support for SQL Server?
Thin clients such as browsers?

These questions and answers lead to more. I would like to have a phone call when I return to the office next week to answer them more fully.

In the meantime:

.NET Framework: clearly some forms of integration are independent of the development environment of FMDesktop. Today, FMDesktop does not support direct integration via the .NET framework. That doesn't mean it never will though.

Revit integration: As much as I can say about this is posted in the Revit or ADT thread.

SQL Server: Is one of the supported databases today for FMDesktop version 6.5.

Thin clients: Today, Facility Web is a module that publishes for a browser environment. I doubt that answers your question, but I'm not sure exactly how much support you want. Let's talk next week.

I'm not entirely clear on what you're asking? Do you mean moving the whole
program to an internet environment (assuming you mean that, rather than
drawings to internet as he just commented on the publishing to web thin
client)?

(quite frankly the whole api, .net thing makes my head hurt, but, I'm making
an attempt to understand)

It went nowhere. I contacted him as he requested and he had nothing to say
and nothing to ask responding more or less with a "never-mind I didn't mean
it."
As you can see in this newsgroup they are once again asking for customer's
to get involved with "Product Research Interviews" as they have done for
many many years. They claim they are interested in improving the products
yet for more than ten years and after selling more than 25 releases of
AutoCAD for example the products remain crippleware that subvert, hinder or
obstruct customers attempting to use the products and their own drawing
assets with the web and the Internet itself. Every corner a customer turns
is blocked off and crippled. Furthermore,

AFIK nobody has ever seen any document recording what customers are
allegedly asking for.
AFIK nobody has ever identified themselves as a customer who has been
interviewed.

Who can believe that after more than ten years (marking the web as
commercialized circa 1994) and after having sold more than 25 releases of
their main product that none of these customers they alledge to interview
have not been conveying their need for a web enabled editor and have not
been conveying their need to web enable their drawing assets and have not
been conveying their need to integrate the products with other line of
business processes that are web enabled?

No, I am not suggesting the entire software application run on the web
Melanie. Even though that is a trend that has already proven itself
successful and a trend that is ongoing and will continue to affect how
software is developed and made available for use. It would be impractical at
this point in time for any vector graphics programs to run as "web sites."
There are what appear to be emerging exceptions such as Microsoft Vista
(launching a new era of CAD) and what Microsoft calls Smart Client
development but more on that later perhaps.

For now it is not impractical to think along the lines of FrontPage or
Dreamweaver though. The editor in the products could and should function in
the same way FrontPage or Dreamweaver functions and should enable customers
to perform the same types of tasks including support for push-button monkey
code or hands-on scripting and Object Oriented Development (OOP) allowing
customers to design, layout, report, and manage their own drawing assets,
schedules, tables and so on as a "web page" or a "web site" as required.
