ADT Space Question

So, I'm asking my boss if we can try at least a pilot project for FMDesktop
this year and he's sounding positive.

Now, to save myself some time, I remembered... Bob Fahlin mentioning
something about automatic 'space'(room boundary) creation in ADT 2007.

So, I have access to ABS 2007 (bundled with Revit Systems 1), and decided to
try it out on my floor plans which are only vanilla ACAD entities.

I kept crashing at first, but, a friend suggested installing the Service
Pack (that comes with Revit Systems 1 Service pack, not the one just for
ADT?).

Anyway, I did that and now my spaces are created! woohoo!

BUT, I know nothing about ADT and next to nothing about FMD/Facility Link.

I'm going to be assigning space/room numbers to these areas.
Does anyone have any suggestions about how I should do that?

I have a lisp routine that will auto-number the spaces with the needed
prefixes and suffixes. So, should I do that and turn them from the regular
text into an attributed block?

Or does ADT have a tool that would be better for this (easy creation, simple
updating, importing into FMD, etc)

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Okay, I asked some ADT friends of mine. While they don't use FMDesktop, they
say that Tags are what I need to use to link information to a Space.

So, I'll be learning how to use those, I guess. After looking at a quick
couple of references, I'm guessing there is all sorts of information you can
put in your tag.

So, the question might become... what all information do I want to put in my
tag, then import to FMD. Or, do I just want to put in the space number, and
link that to a database containing the rest of the information I might need?

This is going to be fun! ~grin~

There is a document on the Facility Manager installation CD that will outline the process of configuring and publishing space objects to Facility Manager. The document is "FacilityManager_DWFPublishingRequirements.pdf" and is located in the "Documents" folder on the Facility Manager installation CD.

Hope this helps...

Finally got around to starting this up and I found the referenced file. Thanks!

One bit of feedback on that though... I notice there are other pdfs in the Documents folder as well (implementation guide, etc)... I think it would be handy if all of the files in the documents folder made it onto the hard drive during install (of all of the files in this folder, only two are not on my hard drive under Facility Manager help after the install, it seems natural to expect them all to be there since most of them are?).

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

Good feedback! I'll pass it along to Product Design so he can beat up the installer team.

nevermind... as I'm typing get a call from the ex, he won't be having
his night with the little one after all... well, we'll see how I'm
feeling around 8pm (bedtime).

~pouting, because I want time to play! erm, learn~
