AutoCAD for Space Allocation?

I’m the CAD manager for a state university with 3,000,000+ Sq. Ft. of building space to manage. We mainly use Architectural Desktop 3.3, and have one AutoCAD Map 4.5(which I know little about) our goal is to have our drawings linked to a Data Base so along with room usage info. the size of the room is also linked. So if the polyline around a room is changed the Sq. Ft. of the room is automatically changed in the Data Base.

I will be grateful for any info you my have.

One method for accomplishing this is through the
use of custom programming. My company Dreamcad specializes in developing
solutions like this.  If your interested, you can contact me via email or
phone.

Good Luck!

If you have ADT AEC Space or AEC Area objects are made for
this.

You can export spaces to a mdb file (we use this), areas to
xls, or could get some custom code made to pull either from the drawing
"live".
