Want to make a river with nParticles...

Is nParticles the best to make a flowing river (I don't have real flow and can't afford it).

I was considering using the dynamic ocean, but I need to create a flowing river with a current.

The only thing I see flowing is nParticles in the pouring from glass to glass.  So, I thought that using nParticle for a river would work if I create a large container for the riverbed.  Is there a better procedur that I can use?

If anyone knows of any tutorials on the topic, I'd appreciate anything.
