Use Reference Dimension value in expression

Does anyone know if it's possible to use the value of a reference in an expression? When I add a a constraint that over constrains my geometry the dialog for creating a reference parameter says it's named and can be used in expressions but I cannot get the variable to work in an expression.

Ie:

Aligned Constraint - d1=2.91

Reference Parameter - (d2=1.20)

User Parameter - user1=d1-d2

Bill, I had developed this block about two years ago while trying to show an elevation view of a conveyor along with a plan view, showing the foreshortened length when inclined or declined. I tested many concepts and actually had this trig based one working, but later opted for something differnt for some reason. If I remember right, I just used the properties palette to name and work in the expressions.
