oooo, further investigation has led me to realise that it's not a background mask behind the text but a field...I have no experience with fields, so if you could explain exactly what you did to sort out the block issue I would be extremely grateful...I see you used an expression to convert mm to m...is it as simple as linking the text to a line or dimension?

yes - I use fields in text and I use construction lines, to get right length to display in text

Right, I've had a decent analysis of the block, and what you've done...I can now replicate them!

I was going to ask you a question....but since starting this message me and a colleague have figured it out. This has now opened up a lot of possibilites for us with regards to fancy blocks. I will integrate some of these functions into the block then repost the finished block.
