Alias studio plugin Render

Hello.

I would like to ask if there is some plug-in for Alias studio so I can render from Alias studio by help of other professional render program such as Maxwell V-Ray or Arion.

So far I found out that Maya or Rhino have such a plug in, but does it have also Alias? (So I don’t need to install extra program).

Thank You.

Hi,

unfortunatly there is no such plugin for alias to render like vray or maxwell. For alias raytrace only would be the best option to render the highquality

You can use your NURBS data in Rhino where you can assign UVs for mapping and for which Maxwell, Shot and V-Ray plug-ins exist 🙂

Nurbs Geometry doesnt have UV mapping.

That s one cool thing about nurbs. No uv map needed.... It s explicit.

Of course, that's what you do in Rhino. We always export our Alias NURBS surfaces to Rhino (IGES 5 file format) to assign UVs there - in order to texture properly in Maxwell Render, Bunkspeed Shot or V-Ray.

Interestingly, after many recent discussions we had with Autodesk technical support, it looks like they could re-introduce UVs with OBJ output (to import into Maxwell Render, Bunkspeed Shot or V-Ray) which was - for some strange reason - dropped after Alias V9. The funny thing is - Alias/Wavefront invented the OBJ format with UVs in the first place way way back 😉

ps: if you're not texturing with directional textures (i.e. wood grain, brushed metal) or you're not texturing with decals (i.e. product graphics, ui-symbols, logos) then you can tessellate in Alias and render in any render software that accepts OBJ input. In the worst case, simple graphics can be photoshopped on the rendering afterwards. But a burl-wood dashboard or gear shift grip can't be done properly that way.
