    VVE installation problem

I have just downloaded and attempted to install VVE version 2000-129 but
it gets to 88% where the install program is registering components and
the dreaded Windows "Illegal operation" window pops up to say Regsvr32
...illegal operation....with the report giving :-

REGSVR32 caused an invalid page fault in
    module at 0000:ffffffff.

OK that sure does not mean much to me!!
I am using windows 95, and the regsvr32 file is version '5.00.1641.1'
    in there.
The VVE version is '4.00' - is this where the conflict arises and if so
    what do I do?
if I close the Illegal Op... window then the installshield finishes at
100% but when I go to open a file it comes up with "..failed to get
    class object for CLSID....etc.
I went back after uninstalling VVE, made sure nothing else was running,
tried again but got the same result.
I went through the newsgroup but did not really see anything there with
    this specific fault.
    HELP !!

Thanks for the prompt reply Greig,
I had already been to the site you mentioned, however I returned there, checked
the files mentioned, but still no joy. All of the DLL files listed in the first
section were either later versions, or the same as what are listed.
All files listed in the second list were present in the correct folders.

I have IE version 5 running here and Netscape 4.7.
Norton 2000 is installed but was disabled as was everything else that I could
    think of.
After uninstalling, restarting the computer and reinstalling, it stopped at the
    same place yet again.
I have absolutely no idea what the conflict could be.
After spending half the night downloading on a very slow connection, I am
reluctant to let VVE go without a fight!
    Gary.

    Gary,

What operating system are you using? I.E. Win95/98 or 2000.

I had the same problem and spent some time on the phone with Autodesk tech support. The final resolution was that something was wrong in the registry and I finally had to rebuild the system. After the system rebuild the VVE installed without any errors.

    agbad,

Sorry to here you had to it that far (system rebuild), the
problem seems to be caused by a couple of different registry
keys depending on the system. I'm real hesitant to post
registry fixes on the news group as working in the registry
can cause lots of major problems. We do have some of these
listed on the main Autodesk support page. Do a search for
the error message, in Gary's case search for "illegal
operation" it will list a number of different errors. Look
for installation problems, more specific 88 or 98%. Look on
all products as the later applications have the same install
shield. Could be as simple as a comma following a path in
the registry, this is the case in windows 2000.
