DWG files in a browser using VV

When I click on a WWW link to a DWG file all I see is a tiled VV icon in the browser window. However if I click REFRESH numerous times it seems to load it about 1 in 20 times. Is this a BIG BUG noone but me seems to have seen?

I need the ability to view DWG files from a link on a WWW browser - if VV won't do this successfully can any recommend another free plug-in or viewer as we want to use DWG files with MS Tahoe when it is released.

Any replies to

Are you the one that did the html coding? If so please post a
copy of the code in a reply to this message.

I have exactly the same problem. Voloview will only display this hideously ugly tiled VV icon. Hitting refresh very rarely works. The only way to have it actually display the drawing is to re-install voloview - which only works the first time.

We have tried numerous methods of instantiating the control - all with the same result. Attempting to load drawings into voloview itself directly after downloading will often (but not always!) result in the application simply crashing with no message.

I have also tried having voloview open in the background while trying to launch a drawing in the browser. This results in the browser and voloview both locking up.

I am running windows 2000 IE 5.5., although we are experiencing the problem on other platforms as well.

I need a solution, or an alternative control ASAP.

Are you using IE? IE5.5? IE5.5 + SP? On Win2000? I
seem to have the exact same problem.

I would like to see a sample html file or any other
method you used of instantiating the control.

I am having the same problem on Windows 2000 with
IE 5.5 and the latest updates from the Microsoft site. I never knew refresh
would get it to load. I will try that and see if I have the exact same
problem.

I tried hitting refresh 128 times (using the f5 key
for Internet Explorer) and mine would never show up. I was using a test HTML

Just to add to this discussion.  Scott, if I
want to see a black background on the web I have to do one of two things: script
the background to be black; or have VVE running in the background and have it's
default settings for background set to black.  If I close VVE in the
background the next drawing that I load will have the tiled Logo image instead
of a drawing.  Is there another build coming or are we stuck to develop for
this one?

Based on a tip from one of the developers, I did
find that if I load the Volo View Express program and leave it running, if I
then go to the HTML page with the browser, it works. So maybe we are on to
something...

This is not going to work becuase the "src"
parameter needs to have a complete path to the target file.  What should
work and does for me is:

size=2><html>
<title>campus.dwg</title>
<body>
<p>
campus.dwg
</p>
<object
classid="clsid:8718C658-8956-11D2-BD21-0060B0A12A50"
width=400
height=300>
<param

<embed
width=400
height=300
src="C:\temp\campus.dwg">
</embed>
</object>
</body>
</html>

face=Arial size=2>

Assuming, of
course,  campus.dwg resides in the temp directory.

Thanks,

Greg.

The tiled icon is an indication that the control is
unable to launch the main voloview.exe executable that it needs in order to do
anything. I wish I had some suggestions about what might be preventing the
control from starting up voloview.exe on your machine, but I
don't.
