Converting DWF files to DWG files

Is there any way to convert DWF files to DWG files?

Thanks,

Mike Hairfield

There is a firm out there selling a converter: I understand their support leaves a lot to be desired. Try a Google search and see if they are still around.

Have you tried just attaching a DWF inside a DWG? You just need a relatively recent version of AutoCAD or LT.

I'm using AutoCAD 2012.

How do I attach a DWF file to a DWG file?

Thanks,

Mike

In AutoCAD 2012, use DWFATTACH command.

OK, I did that and it inserted the DWF file in to my AutoCAD drawing but everything is on "Layer 0".

I guess I should be glad that I can insert the DWF drawing, is there anyway to import the layers?

Thanks,

Mike

Look up and use DWFLAYERS or ULAYERS commands.

There are some 3rd party programs you can buy that promise to do so: use your favorite Internet Search Engine to find them.

I know there is a DWF TO DWG converter, you can find it at www.Autodwg.com

They have other converters as well.

A roundabout way that I have discovered for converting it, depending on how the dwf file was created (if it is only an image type file, then it wouldn't work), is to insert the dwf (have the dwf snap turned on) and then pdf the file and then you can insert the pdf and import the pdf as objects.
