dwf v00.36

Is dwf v00.36 different from V00.42.
I use text editor to replace the header version
from v00.42 to v00.36 and try to open in Whip,
but it prompts that file corrupted, if I change back
to v00.42 or v00.50 there is no problem.

When the version changes in a DWF file, it does so because something changed
about the format itself. The Autodesk DWF viewing products, e.g. WHIP!, Volo
View, DWF Viewer, and DWF Composer, look at the DWF version and take into
account the differences. You cannot revert the structure of a DWF file
simply by changing its DWF version number.

Interesting.
I have a BIG problem with the margins of a drawing not showing up correctly in DWF Composer, though the same DWFs were fine using Volo and WHIP! I am also noticing that early DWFs like those you mentioned seem to be okay.

I am wondering if there is a trick that can be done with a faulty DWF to fool composer into displaying the correct page placement in relation to the drawing entities.

If anything, I would expect the opposite. The earliest DWF files (pre
AutoCAD 2000) did not have the proper PlotInfo Matrix. Initial attempts at
adding this information (pre AutoCAD 2004) were not always correct. The most
correct DWF files come from AutoCAD 2005 and 2006. It is true that Autodesk
View, WHIP!, and Volo View had different processing algorithms from Autodesk
DWF Viewer and Autodesk DWF Composer. So the fact that you are getting
better results with the old files and the old software is probably a
combination of the two.
