Large print spool files when printing scanned dwf

We have some dwf files that were created from old paper drawings scanned to TIFF then printed to DWF. When these files are sent to a printer the print spool size is large, for example an A-Sized drawing of a simple cup is 21 MB. While a very similar print that was converted from an IDW is 364KB. But the file size of the two DWFs is realtively close, 34KB and 67KB respectively.
This is slowing down traffic on our WAN.
Any thoughts?

There are several ways to reduce spool file size.
1. Select small paper size
2. Reduce print dpi
3. Print to gray/black and white instead of color
Thank you

1. Select small paper size - The prints used for testing are A-Size
2. Reduce print dpi - I will try this
3. Print to gray/black and white instead of color - The prints used for testing are black and white
I guess I was hoping to hear of some file compression or cleanup suggestions.

Anybody know why it is larger? If I convert this file to a jpg the file size increases to 85k from 34k and when sent it to the printer the spool file is down to 3.4mb from the 21mb.
