Takeoffs in ExpressViewer, or even in Volo?

I know an energy consultant that wants to start using ExpressViewer or Volo
to do takeoffs, but I can't get a good answer as two which to use, if
either. Can you use EV to get a dimension from a file? And whether in EV or
VV, how does the viewer handle scale? I.e., if I have a sheet that I plotted
1:1, with a viewport at 1/4"=1', and I take a dimension from two corners of
the building, do I get the MS 20' distance, or the PS 5" distance and I have
to convert manually?

Thanks in advance,
Gordon

The Autodesk Express Viewer does not have any measurement tools. It is a
very simple "View and Print" application.

Volo View does have measurement and redlining tools. Volo View does have
measurement scale abilities so that you don't need to do it yourself, but
the ability to measure with scale is dependent on a complex set of
conditions as to how the file was generated.

During the last beta process, I submitted a request for something like
Whip's "computeCoordinates" method -- this was said to be being
considered -- is there any advance on that information?

The transform point API allows you to transform from one coordinate space to
another. You determine the source and destination coordinate spaces and the
point to feed in. Coordinate spaces are either drawing (i.e. AutoCAD model
space - double space), DWF (i.e Whip - integer space), paper (i.e. double
space in paper units), or screen (i.e. pixels).

This will be implemented in the next AEV service pack, due soon.
